Friday September 1
- Children’s Card Making Station for Grandparents Day, Ida Rupp Public Library; Children. Grandparents Day is on Sunday, September 10th. Visit the Children’s Area card making station from September 1st through September 8th to celebrate special grandparents in your life!
- Catapult Competition, Ida Rupp Public Library; 2 – 3 p.m.; Children. Port Clinton City Schools do not have school this day, so come join us for some fun at the library! Children ages 5-12 are invited to join us to construct their own catapults and participate in an activity. All supplies will be provided. Once all participants have finished building, they will work together on teams to knock down their opponent’s tower by firing mini marshmallows from their catapults. No registration required. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
Saturday September 2
- Grab & Go Craft Kit – End-of-Summer Keepsake, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library, Families. Stop in and pick up this month’s Family Grab & Go Craft Kit while supplies last. Included in this kit will be everything you need to create a summer keepsake to help cherish your memories. Limit one kit per family. Available while supplies last!
- Spy Day, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.; Children. Have you ever thought about becoming a spy? Come to our Spy Training Workshop and see if you can make the cut. We will have several activities for you to try your hand at real spy work: slither through our laser walk, write with invisible ink, crack some secret codes, and get your own codename. - Afternoon Movie, Ida Rupp Public Library; 12:30 – 3 p.m.; Adults. Come to the library to watch Bound for Glory (1976; rated PG; runtime – 147 minutes). Although this program is geared toward adults, the film is suitable for all ages. Bring a blanket to sit on or your own chair if you’d like. Popcorn will be provided. No registration required.
- Dungeons & Dragons Jr., Ida Rupp Public Library; 4 – 6 p.m.; Children. Kids ages 7-12 are invited to join us on a grand adventure! Come play Dungeons & Dragons with Corvid and Megan, two seasoned players with a deep love for nerdy things. We will spend time playing one-shot games each month. We will teach you the rules of the game–no experience required! For those with a fond interest or those just hearing about D&D, all are welcome to embark on a fantasy journey. - Marblehead Lighthouse Builders and Keepers, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.; Adults. Join local historian and Marblehead Lighthouse Archivist Lorrie Halblaub for fascinating tales of the men who built the lighthouse, the men and women who kept the light burning night after night, and some of the early settlers who shaped the Marblehead Peninsula. The story of how they were all connected is told using facts and photographs that will stir your imagination. No registration required!

- Mystery Book Discussion, Ida Rupp Public Library; 10 – 11 a.m.; Adults. September’s Mystery Book Discussion is The Family Remains by Lisa Jewell. Registration is not required and new members are always welcome! Copies of the book will be available following the August 3 discussion.
- Crocheting with Heather, Erie Islands Library; 5 – 6:30 p.m.; Adults. Come create an amazing crochet accessory by only using one or two stitches. No crochet experience necessary and once you have the technique down, you’re sure to make many more! This class is being presented by Heather Durdil who is host of the podcast Heather Spins a Yarn. - Clemons Cemetery Walking Tour, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 9:30 – 11 a.m.; All Ages. This tour takes place on the grounds of Clemons Cemetery. The tour will educate about Clemons Cemetery, its interred, the cemetery restoration process, and the preservation of these local treasures. The terrain of the cemetery is unlevel grass. The tour will last about an hour. For this tour we meet at the cemetery. No registration required.
- Friends of the Library Book Sale, Erie Islands Library; 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; All Ages. Looking for a good read? Trying to restock your island library? Stop on down for a huge island Book Sale! Loads of popular titles for all ages. Don’t miss out! If you’re not on the island on this date, don’t fret! Or we always have books for sale in the library.
Monday September 11
- Children’s Scavenger Hunt, Ida Rupp Public Library; Children. From September 11th – 20th, pick up a scavenger hunt sheet and pencil from the desk in the children’s area. Complete the sheet by finding materials in the children’s area, and turn in your completed scavenger hunt sheet at the main circulation desk for a small prize. No registration required.
- Vineyard Book Discussion, Ida Rupp Public Library; 1 – 2 p.m.; Adults. Visit Ohio Living Vineyard on Catawba for a monthly book discussion group meeting in the Community Room. No registration required. Anyone is welcome to join this book discussion. Participation is not limited to those living at the Vineyard. - Ottawa County Reads!, Ida Rupp Public Library; 2 – 3 p.m.; All Ages. Join us at the Performing Arts Center at Port Clinton High School to hear from Pete the Cat authors, James and Kimberly Dean! The first 200 attendees will receive a free Pete the Cat book to take home. This program was made possible by the Libraries Accelerating Reading Grant from the Ohio Department of Education.

- Monarchs, Milkweed, and More, Ida Rupp Public Library; 4 – 5 p.m.; Children. Children ages 3-12 are invited to learn about monarch butterflies, their life cycle, and migration. We will also discuss the importance of the milkweed plant for monarch butterflies. Children will get to take home seeds of milkweed plants that are native to our area. It is best to plant these seeds in October or November. No registration required. Children 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

- Dancing in the Stacks, Ida Rupp Public Library; 5 – 6 p.m.; Teens. Teens in grades 6-12, come to the library to celebrate National Dance Day and National Women’s Health & Fitness Day with dance instructor, Leah Holmes! Leah is a Port Clinton native and a certified Turn Up Dance Fitness Instructor. She is very passionate about dance fitness, the healing power of movement, and uses her hip-hop/pop dance style to motivate groups to “step into their power in a safe space.” No registration required.
- Make Your Own Rubber Stamp, Erie Islands Library; 5 – 6 p.m.; Adults. Librarian Karen Wilhelm will be on hand to show you how to make your own personalized rubber stamp. This is a fun, easy craft that you can express your art form in a few simple steps with very few supplies. Each participant will go home with a rubber stamp. Limited to 10 people. - DIY Fall Potpourri, Ida Rupp Public Library; 1 – 2 p.m.; Adults. Join us at the Library to create a sachet of autumn potpourri to take home. We’ll be using a variety of items, such as dried oranges, cinnamon sticks, and more! Registration is required since supplies are limited. All supplies provided, registration opens September 15th.
Saturday September 30
- MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival, Ida Rupp Public Library; 2 – 4:30 p.m.; Adults. Join us for our fifth year showing the MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival. As in past years, we will have 3 showings throughout the week of the festival. Come watch the finalists and make your voice heard by voting for your favorite at the end of each showing. All finalists will be eligible for the Oscar Qualifying Run. Past finalists have gone on to be nominated for an Oscar. How it works: each showing will be the complete festival, with all 10 finalists, and will last roughly 2 – 2.5 hours. There is no need to go to multiple showings unless you want to! At the end of each showing, you will get a chance to vote on your favorite short and your favorite actor. The votes will be tallied and submitted after the final showing. No registration required to attend. MANHATTAN SHORT is a global film festival highlighting short films (less than 20 minutes). The festival takes place over roughly one week where venues can choose how many showings they want during that time. Films can be of any genre and from any country. In years past; we’ve seen dark comedies, though-provoking dramas, and even animation.
