The Boys Division III District Final game between the Margaretta Polar Bears (23-3) and the Genoa Area Comets (18-7) was on Saturday, March 9. The Polar Bears were victorious 59-47 and are the Division III District Champions. This is Margaretta’s second title in the last three years and their fourth overall, joining the 1928 and the 1932 teams. The Margaretta Polar Bears record of 23-3 also set a single-season record for Margaretta Boys Basketball.

In the first quarter, Genoa held the early lead 11-6. Margaretta would respond by scoring the first 15 points of the second quarter. They held the lead at halftime 28-14. In the third quarter, Margaretta had increased their lead 40-20 with Judah Keller, Tate Bailey, Tyson Bailey and Julian Washington leading the scoring blitz. At the start of the fourth quarter, Margaretta still had a 20-point lead. The Comets could erase that lead margin to just six points thanks to Ryan Routson’s points late in the game. Tyson Bailey, Kale Bailey and Julian Washington each made a pair of foul shots for Margaretta in the closing seconds to put the game out of reach. The Genoa Area Comets finish the season with a record of 18-7. The Margaretta Polar Bears will play the Worthington Christian Warriors on Wednesday, March 13, at 6 p.m.
