Does anyone else remember the TV & radio commercial that sang about “Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet”?

It was a car commercial with the underlying premise that all of the items mentioned were truly American or America’s best products at the time.

In the 1970s, I guess these four items were king of their field … but are they still today?

I would think that the NFL has overtaken baseball as American’s game. Some may even say soccer (dare I say Futbol) is played by more kids in the USA today than baseball.

Are hot dogs still supreme on the dinner plate? Well, I always have a package of them in my fridge – Ballpark or Tanks Meats are my preferred brands. However, I grill more burgers than dogs these days. Some might put a more-healthier spin on Americans favorite food – quinoa or tofu perhaps?

Apple pie is still my favorite. Even better warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and Cool Whip on the side. Admittedly though, ice cream alone, a cookie or two, and donuts are also at the top of my list. Let’s be completely honest – anything chocolate will do also!

What about the car of today? I’ve driven some form of Jeep for nearly two decades. Nonetheless, a hybrid or EV might be the most popular mode of travel today. Perhaps even an e-bike or e-scooter is more appealing to the younger crowd.

So, that slogan – Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and Chevrolet – just might be rewritten as Football or Futbol, Tofu, Non-Dairy Soy Based Frozen Treat and Tesla!

To me that just doesn’t flow from the tongue as well as the original. How would you rewrite that slogan? Or, would you just keep it as is?

PS: My apologies to those of you that remember the original slogan. You should have it out of your head in a day or two!
