Principal Carrie Sanchez of the Port Clinton Middle School, a celebrated school official who has won awards in recent years, was elected the President of the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators for 2021-22.

According to its website, OAESA’s purpose is to “connect and support pre-K – 8 administrators throughout their careers. We believe that every school deserves an effective, informed, and caring administrator to lead and support it. OAESA is here for administrators, so they can be there for their students, faculty and communities.”

Sanchez has led the team of educators at Port Clinton Middle School since 2009. Under her guidance, the school has received national recognition as a National Forum School to Watch, High Progress School of Honor, and International Center for Leadership in Education Model School Award. She received the Debra Kasak National Distinguished Leadership Award in 2019.

Sanchez has been an active member of OAESA since 2011 and is currently serving on OAESA’s Board of Directors as the Middle School Representative. Her work for the association has also included roles as a member of the Professional Learning Service Team, County Representative, and District Liaison.

“This critical time in history for students of Ohio requires teachers who are passionate and invested in their students’ development both academically and emotionally,” said Sanchez. “Education today requires school leaders who are proactive advocates for both students and teachers. Working with school leaders to better develop and effectively support educators is critical work that must continue to gain momentum throughout Ohio.”

The role of president for OAESA will also benefit the Port Clinton City School District by networking with premier school leaders throughout the state and country. In this role, Sanchez will also meet with state and federal legislators regarding educational reform. The opportunity to share and see educational innovation from other premier school districts will continue to inspire Port Clinton City Schools.

“Carrie Sanchez has been a tremendous leader in our district and we’re excited to see her influence spread to other districts across our state,” said Patrick Adkins, Superintendent of Schools for the Port Clinton School District.
