Four men and their four guitars offered an evening of musical magic during the most recent concert hosted by the Musical Arts Series of Port Clinton on March 16. The Texas Guitar Quartet (TxGQ) – made up of Isaac Bustos, Joseph Palmer, Alejandro Montiel and Jay Kacherski – performed classical guitar music to a packed crowd at Firelands Presbyterian Church.

“They are all PhDs,” said Peggy Debien, who introduced the group. “I can’t believe how lucky we are to have them.”

Since forming in 2008, TxGQ has traveled around the world to perform before audiences in far locales including Spain and China.

Joseph Palmer and Isaac Bustos traveled from Texas with the Texas Guitar Quartet to perform in Port Clinton.

“Three are from Texas, and one is from New Orleans. I learned that Austin is the capital of classical guitar,” said Geoff Mendenhall. “They came here today, and tomorrow, they will perform in Zanesville.”

The next concert in the Musical Arts Series is the April 7 performance of The Cleveland Institute of Music Trios of Trios. The River Raisin Ragtime Review will perform on May 19.
