Catawba Island’s John Davenport and his wife, Dr. Diabna Kyrkos, a pediatric dentist, will be on a medical missionary team this winter to the mountain villages of Guatemala to treat youngsters.
John Davenport and his wife, a pediatric dentist in Bay Village, love music and they love helping the children of Guatemala with dental issues that often are not treatable in the extremely rural villages in the mountains of Guatemala.
“It’s a labor of love,” said Davenport. “It is very difficult to travel the rugged terrain just to get to the villages, where medical and dental services are just not available. Our medical team is sponsored by the John Knox Presbyterian Church in North Olmsted, Ohio, and team members pay our own expenses while helping the team to raise more than $10,000 for medicine and supplies.”
To kick off their fundraising efforts, the Davenports rounded up a Put-in-Bay legend for an Evening with Mike “Mad Dog” Adams on Friday, Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. at Davenport’s unique music venue, HALO, 805 Wayne St., Sandusky.
The theme is to help the Davenports to help the neglected children of Guatemala. Donations for the Guatemala trip can be made at the door. Donation dining includes turkey chili and cornbread.
Davenport will also host a musical night on Friday, Jan. 10 at the Catawba Brewing Company in Port Clinton. A variety of local artists, including Davenport, will be featured starting at 7 p.m.
