
A local history mural painted by Derek Brennan showing the local history of the Village of Oak Harbor now adorns the Oak Harbor Public Library. A special program at the library on Monday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. will display the photos Brennan relied on to create the mural.
The history of the Village of Oak Harbor has been turned into a beautiful new mural at the Oak Harbor Public Library. Artist Derek Brennan created the mural, and local historian John Liske will share the photos used to create it at a special presentation at the library on Monday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m.
In other news, The Oak Harbor Public Library will be closed Monday, Sept. 6 for Labor Day, and its new extended library hours will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 7. The new hours will be Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m.; Friday: 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Local History & Museum Center is open on Thursday from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. A local historian is on site most Thursdays.

Afterschool for Tweens on Tuesday, Sept. 14 will be Spa Day, with teens making their own skin care products. Tuesday, Sept. 21 is STEM Day, working with magnets. Storytime for preschoolers is every Wednesday at 11:30 a.m..
Just for Adults will feature Oak Trees and Boats on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. presented by local historian John Liske. A brief history on how the river and timber played a major part in settling Oak Harbor.
Craft Monday on Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. will deal with scarecrow craft, and all supplies area provided. Learn how to use the library app and streamline your reading experience and access e-books, videos, music and audio books. On Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. Bring your phone, laptop or tablet with you.
Watercolor on Wednesdays is from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Bring your own supplies and join others who enjoy the art of watercolor. Knitter’s Group is on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Bring your own supplies.
“Coffee and a Book” book club, meets on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. in the library meeting room. Choose your own book this month. The 4th Tuesday book club will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m.
