The Oak Harbor High School Student Council sponsored the Veteran’s Day Assembly on Thursday, Nov. 11, with guest speaker Retired Master Sergeant, Ibrahim Abdul-Rahim, speaking of the value of service to self and country. Students of military families were recognized and the OHHS Band played God Bless America to close the assembly.
At Oak Harbor Middle School students and staff showcased their special veteran by designing a yard sign with information about the service member. Over 100 signs were completed and placed in the front yard of the Middle School, with 13 signs honoring the service members killed in the Kabul Attack in Afghanistan on Aug. 26.
Several veterans and community members stopped during the day to view the signs, a warm remembrance honoring the special individuals. As the time approached 11:11 a.m., students and veterans gathered at the flags posted at the entrance of the Middle School as Building Secretary Jackie Macko played “Taps.”
