OAK HARBOR – The Village of Oak Harbor will invest approximately $600,000 in street improvements this year through its 2026 Paving Program, with work expected to begin in July and be completed by Sept. 15.

The project is supported, in part, by funding from the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC), including a $175,000 grant and a $75,000 zero-interest loan.

Paving improvements will include:

• South Church St. from State Route 163 to Mill St.
• Mill St. from South Church St. to State Route 19
• South Railroad St. from Benton Street to State Route 19

In addition to resurfacing, the Mill St. portion of the project will include new curbs and pedestrian safety improvements. Planned upgrades include a raised pedestrian crosswalk and a redesigned sidewalk layout to improve safety for pedestrians accessing businesses along the north side of the street.

“These projects are made possible through grant funding and the street levy supported by Oak Harbor residents since 1988,” said Oak Harbor Mayor Quinton Babcock. “We are pleased that we can keep the streets in good condition and also make upgrades when cost-effective to do so.”

This year’s paving project continues the village’s ongoing investment in infrastructure and follows the recent acquisition and paving of South Walnut St., which was previously a private gravel road.

Additional information regarding construction schedules, traffic impacts and road closures will be shared once the contractor’s timeline has been finalized.
