Oak Harbor used its running game to easily subdue the Maumee Panthers (2-2) on Friday night and stay unbeaten as the Comets made their debut in the Northern Buckeye Conference, 49-7. Now 4-0 for the season, Oak Harbor will play the Rossford Bulldogs this Friday, Sept. 15.
With Maumee unable to stymie Oak Harbor’s ground attack, quarterback Mike Lalonde had an easy evening, throwing only 13 passes. He connected on 11, an excellent average, for 86 yards. That included a 25-yard touchdown pass to tight end Gary Brooks.

With the running backs scampering for 396 yards on 45 rushing plays, the passing game was icing on the Comets cake.
Carson Ridener topped the list with 124 yards and touchdown runs of 26 and 9 yards. Jaqui Hayward scored on a pair of runs of 33 and 5 yards, and overall had 97 yards on nine carries.
Dalton Witter rolled for 82 yards on nine carries and a 9-yard TD, while Blake Nickel ran for 95 yards on eight carries.
Port Clinton grid skid continues, 50-14
The Redskins saw their season record fall to 2-2 on Friday night, toppled by host Liberty-Benton after the Eagles scored the first 23 points of the game and cruised to a 50-14 victory.
Port Clinton scored on a 90-yard kickoff run by Malakii Pinkerton, and on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Gabe Koskela to Dagan Meyers.
Port Clinton will host Clyde (3-1) on Friday, Sept. 15 in Sandusky Bay Conference action.
Genoa dominates Fostoria, 55-14
Genoa dominated visiting Fostoria, 55-14, in its Friday football matchup. The Comets rolled early, taking a 27-8 lead heading into the second quarter. Genoa had an overwhelming 48-8 lead over the Redmen at halftime. The Comets open Northern Buckeye Conference play on Friday, Sept. 15 when they visit Lake.
