Paul O. Sawmiller, 79, of Oregon, died Monday, Jan. 14, at Mercy-St. Charles Hospital. Paul was born April 27, 1939, in Mendon, Ohio, to Osmond F. and Nora (Roberts) Sawmiller. Paul is survived by sons, Curt (Kim) Sawmiller of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Kevin (Steffanie) Sawmiller of Curtice and daughter, Karen Sawmiller of Oregon; sisters, Wilma Young of Celina, Ohio and Ethel Mominee of Toledo. Robert J. Bredbeck, September 17, 1942 – January 9, 2019
Robert J. Bredbeck, 94, of Port Clinton, died Jan. 9. He was born Sept. 17, 1924 to Ralph and Lulu Bredbeck. He was a lifelong resident of the Marblehead Peninsula until February of 2000 when he moved to the Vineyard on Catawba. He was a graduate of Lakeside High School and Bowling Green State University. He served in the U. S. Army. He was employed for over 40 years by Nationwide Insurance Company.
He had been a volunteer for the Danbury Senior Center, Stein Hospice and an adult literary tutor at the Sandusky Library. A senior meals delivery person, docent at the Marblehead Lighthouse Museum and The Keeper’s House.
Robert was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, past member of Marblehead Peninsula Lions Club, Ottawa County Historical Society and Marblehead Lighthouse Historical Society.
He is survived by his nieces Cynthia (Bredbeck) Hicks and Lauren (Bredbeck) (John) Zaworski; special friends Sharon, Felix and Hannah Polanco. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn, brother and sister-in-law Vernon and Patricia Bredbeck and his parents Ralph and Lulu Bredbeck.
Per Bob’s wishes his body has be donated to University of Toledo Medical School. Memorial contributions may be given to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 of Ohio Living Vineyard on Catawba, 3820 E. Vineyard Village Dr. Port Clinton, Ohio 43452. Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Peninsula Chapel is handling the arrangements.
Mervin Lewis Rose, Sr. January 2, 1922 – January 17, 2019
Mervin Lewis Rose, Sr., 97, passed away, Thursday, Jan. 17, in Port Clinton, following a brief battle with old age. Mervin (Merv) was born on Jan. 2, 1922 in Northrup, Ohio, son of Arnold E. and Ethel G. (Amos) Rose. Merv moved with his family to Fostoria, Ohio, where his father established the Rose Barber Shop. Merv attended Andrews Barber College in Toledo, and worked alongside his father.
Merv is survived by his three sons: Mervin Jr. (wife Jan), Garden Ridge, Tex.; Steven (wife Sue), Camano Island, Wash.; and Kenneth (wife Lynne), Media, Pa. Merv was supported in his final years by his friend and companion, Gae Haueisen.
