Ottawa County Fairgrounds to host Eclipse Watch Party

The Oak Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce and the Oak Harbor Development Group are hosting Eclipse Over Ottawa County, a four-day weekend of events that begins on April 5 and culminates on April 8 with an Eclipse Watch Party that will include food vendors, activities, merchandise sales and camping on the beautiful grounds of the Ottawa County Fairgrounds, situated along the Portage River. Oak Harbor and neighboring communities are planning several events on the days leading up to the eclipse.

Friday, April 5

  • The Oak Harbor Lions Club will host a Parking Lot Sandwich Sale in the Community Markets parking lot by the Portage River from 3 to 7 p.m. The club’s locally famous sausage and sirloin sandwiches will be available.

Saturday, April 6

  • The Ottawa County Junior Fair Board will host a square dance in the Ottawa County Fairgrounds B3 Building at 7 p.m. Jerry Wittman will call the dances. Tickets cost $5 and can be purchased at the door.
  • The Black Swamp Tavern Poker Run will begin and end at Black Swamp Tavern at 131 W. Water St. in Oak Harbor. Cost is $20 per person, and proceeds benefit Sleep in Heavenly Peace which provides free beds for local children in need. Registration runs 11 a.m. to noon, with the first bike out at noon. Stops are at Magee East, Kaiser’s Limestone Tavern, Rayz Café in Genoa and Lagoon Saloon.
  • The Oak Harbor Lions Club will host a Parking Lot Sandwich Sale in the Community Markets parking lot by the Portage River from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The club’s locally famous sausage and sirloin sandwiches will be available.
  • Kaiser’s Limestone Tavern will host a cornhole tournament at 3 p.m.

Sunday, April 7

  • St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 122 Ottawa St. in Oak Harbor, will offer an Eclipse Weekend Pancake Breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, fruit, drinks and coffee. Freewill donations are accepted.
  • The Mockingbird on Mill Road will host Jazz at the Mockingbird from 4 to 7 p.m.
  • St. Boniface Catholic Church will host bingo at 4 p.m.

Monday, April 8

  • An Eclipse Watch Party will be hosted at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event includes food trucks, the 4-H Ice Cream Booth, an Eclipse Selfie Station and free eclipse glasses to the first 150 people. The Park District of Ottawa County will host an eclipse activity table from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Guests are invited to view the eclipse from The Mockingbird on Mill Road, and A Change of Plans will perform from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Pisanello’s Pizza, which is normally closed on Mondays, will open on April 8 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature The Big E! pizza, a pizza covered in “totality” with pepperoni.
