The Ottawa County Republican Party invites the public to the Grand Opening of the 2022 Republican Campaign Headquarters on Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 4-6 p.m. The headquarters is inside Commodore Perry Inn & Suites at 255 W. Lakeshore Drive in Port Clinton.
Congressional candidate JR Majewski and Rep. D.J. Swearingen, R-Huron, along with many other candidates and elected officials, will attend the event. Refreshments will be served.
Ottawa County Republican Women’s Club President Toni DeLuca and Secretary Stephanie Kyle will co-manage the headquarters, which will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. Hours will increase as the Nov. 8 midterm election approaches.
“We have lots of information on all of the candidates. We have literature, and we can help you register to vote,” Kyle said. “You can pick up signs for candidates, and we’ll have some merchandise available, like t-shirts, hats, pins, flags and some patriotic jewelry.”
Visitors are welcome to stop by to discuss current affairs.
“Some people like to come in and talk about what’s going on in the world and get different opinions,” Kyle said.
Occasionally, headquarters’ volunteers see the impact they make. During the last presidential election, a local resident who had never voted came in for advice. The volunteers explained the process and helped him register to vote and find his precinct.
“He got emotional. He felt so strongly about the election,” Kyle said. “Situations like that, when you help people get involved, are moving. We meet all sorts of people, and we like that.”
