One of the few ways to get your hands on quality native trees and shrubs has begun. Order forms for the Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District 2019 Seedling Tree and Shrub Sale are now available by calling 419-898-1595 or visiting the district’s web site at: www.ottawaswcd.com.
Evergreen varieties are sold in packets of 10 and include: Colorado Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, American Arborvitae, and Bald Cypress. This year we will again offer the “fast growing” Green Rocket Cedar that will be sold individually. These cedars grow up to three feet per year, are deer resistant, have a strong root system, and no major insect problems.
They make a great windbreak or privacy screen.
The Ottawa SWCD is also excited to offer the following varieties: Princeton American Elm, Canada Red Chokecherry, Ivory Silk Lilac, Autumn Blaze Maple, White Oak, Exclamation London Plane, Skyrise, Tulip Poplar and American Cranberry.
Back for a second year is the Wildlife Tree Pack, Pollinator Tree Pack and a Nut Tree Pack which includes five different types of native trees to produce the perfect native habitat!
Prices range from $12 to $25. If you would like an order form or have questions, please call the Ottawa SWCD office at 419-898-1595. Early ordering is encouraged because supplies are limited. Deadline for ordering is April 3. Pickup day will be April 18.
Money raised from the program goes to support District Education Programs throughout the year. To view the different varieties or print out an order form, visit the Ottawa SWCD Facebook page or its website at: ottawaswcd.com
Native trees and shrubs are now available from the Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District. A favorite of newcomer Beki Hineline is the Tulip Poplar, which is able to get quickly established and grow fast. Returning this year are the Wildlife Tree Pack, Pollinator Tree Pack and a Nut Tree Pack.
