Cannons belching smoke are always a treat at Put-in-Bay.
Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial at Put-in-Bay on South Bass island will celebrate Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry’s birthday during Cannonade Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 19-20, one of the national monument’s signature events during the season. Crews will be firing all sorts of historic weapons for the audience, from black powder muskets and rifles to their carronade.
Demonstrations will happen at every hour from 11.a.m. to 5 p.m. all weekend. A junior ranger program will be led by a ranger at 1 p.m.
