Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial is on the “Highway to History,” one of TourismOhio’s 10 themed road trips just launched for the 2019 season on its new website, RoadTrips.Ohio.org.

“We are excited to be a stop on Ohio Tourism’s Highway to History Road Trip,” said Superintendent Barbara Rowles, “Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial offers our visitors interesting programs, special events, and a beautiful 25-acre park to enjoy.”

Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial opens Saturday, May 18 for the 2019 season. The Memorial Column and Observation Deck, and the park’s Visitor Center, are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Sept. 8. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 9 through Sept. 30, and weekends in October (Friday through Monday) until Oct. 21.

Among the major events Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial offers is the third annual Put-in-Bay Music Festival, a free concert on Saturday, June 8, that features six bands and is a family friendly event, she said.

Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial Park Rangers give daily programs on history, the environment, historic small firearms, and programs for youth. One weekend a month Park Rangers provide historic small firearms and carronade (short barrel gun) firing demonstrations.

The park also offers four evening sunset or night sky tours on the 317-foot tall Observation Deck during the summer, and ends each season honoring the men who fought and died in the Battle of Lake Erie during its Historic Weekend activities.

A full list of park programs and activities can be found on its website at nps.gov/pevi.

Supt. Rowles said the partnership with TourismOhio will bring more travelers to Ohio and introduce Perry’s Victory to new visitors as well as reacquaint those who have visited in the past. Matt MacLaren, director of OhioTourism, said Ohio is within a day’s drive of 60% of the U.S. population and research indicates visitors are coming from surrounding states. RoadTrips.Ohio.org was created as an easy way for families and friends to find experiences to enjoy together.

RoadTrips.Ohio.org road trip themes include Thriving Cities (Urban), To the Moon and Back (Space/Aviation), Are We There Yet? (Family), The Scenic Route (Outdoors), Lover’s Lane (Romance), Foodie Fill-up (Cuisine), Highway to History (History), Rock, Ride and Explore (First-time Visitor), Culture Cruise (Culture) and Winning Drive (Sports).

Perry's Momument Re-Enactors
