Phyllis J. Peto, 84, of Port Clinton, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Monday, June 26, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky. She was born May 1, 1939, in Rogersville, Tenn., the daughter of George and Mary (Mowell) Ward. She married Nicholas A. “Nick” Peto, May 16, 1959, and he preceded her in death on June 12, 2006.

Phyllis was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton. She and Nick previously were active in the Port Clinton Elk’s Lodge and Port Clinton Moose Lodge and she previously bowled in league at Harbor Lanes. Phyllis was previously the manager of the Port Clinton Odd Lots and she owned and operated her own business Gifts & More at Fort Firelands.

Surviving are her daughter: Sobra Peto of Port Clinton; brother: G. W. Ward of Morristown, Tenn. and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister: Oaklee Newberry; brothers: Wayne and Gene Ward.

Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1124 Fulton St., Port Clinton. Additional visitation was held Friday, June 30, from 10-12 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 207 Adams Street, Port Clinton where funeral services began at 12 p.m. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton.
