Pianist Katie Mehan featured May 12 in Musical Arts Series

International Steinway Pianist Katie Mahan will perform for the Musical Arts Series in Port Clinton on May 12 at 3:30 p.m. at Firelands Presbyterian Church, 2626 E. Harbor Rd., Port Clinton. Mahan’s program will include selections from Liszt, Mozart and Debussy, and she will conclude with “An American in Paris” by George Gershwin.

When she was four years old, Mehan was inspired by a performance of An American in Paris by French pianists Katia and Marielle LaBeque, convincing Mehan she wanted to be a concert pianist.  She gave her first recital at the age of 6.

For the 100th anniversary of Leonard Bernstein’s birth, German classical recording label Deutsche Grammophon invited Mahan to record his complete solo piano works. In 2018, the CD was released internationally as part of a series of recordings to celebrate the composer’s birth.

Mehan has toured and performed internationally and released six independently produced CDs.

Following the concert, the audience will be invited to a reception to meet Mahan. This performance is sponsored by the Stouffer Family and the Catawba Island Club with accommodations provided by Our Guest Inn. Tickets will be available at the door for $15 with free admission for students.
