The street light that help crowds of beachgoers cross East Perry Street from Lakeview Park parking lots to the cool waters of Lake Erie will be turned on Saturday, May 1, signaling the start of the summer season. The east end of the Port Clinton Beach, which has been a bit of a mess for quite a while, will soon be in tip-top shape for the summer.
Port Clinton crews have been working on the area, where high water the last couple of years had exposed power lines that city officials were unaware existed. The electrical lines power the three pump stations along the shorelines, so they were redirected under Perry Street.
Sand will be added to the beach, and the concrete barriers across from Lakeview Park will be removed, allowing beachgoers access to the expansive area. The Lakeview Park rest rooms will be opened soon.
The Lakeview Park Concession stand, operated by Cris and Stacy Maple, will be open daily from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day, weather permitting.
