Port Clinton Board of Education switches to Sunday graduation

The Port Clinton High School graduation date for next year has been scheduled for Sunday, May 22, 2022. The Port Clinton Board of Education voted to move the traditional Saturday morning graduation to Sunday afternoon at last week’s board meeting.

“With our graduation now taking place in May, many of our students had to choose between attending graduation or participating in spring athletic events,” said Superintendent of Schools Patrick Adkins. “Our goal of moving graduation is to prevent graduates, and their families, from having to choose between graduation or their chance to extend their final year of high school athletics.”

Port Clinton is one of only five area school districts that traditionally hosts graduation on Saturday, a list that includes Bellevue, Western Reserve, Margaretta, Genoa and Norwalk. The majority of school districts have their graduation ceremonies on Sunday. Changing the day to Friday evening would still have resulted in scheduling conflicts.

The time of graduation on Sunday, May 22, 2022 has yet to be determined. Check www.pccsd.net and the district calendar for updated information.
