The Port Clinton Board of Education honored Julie Young Walker with the Flagship Crew Award for her generous and discreet support of students at Port Clinton Middle School and Port Clinton High School at the Dec. 1 Port Clinton Board of Education meeting. The Flagship Awards are part of the district’s recognition program that honors parents, community members, and staff who help the district fulfill its motto, “Proudly Charting a Course for Success.” The program includes three categories: Captain for staff, First Mate for parents, and Crew for community.

Every year, Walker reaches out to Port Clinton Middle School to offer assistance to eighth-graders who may need help attending the annual field trip to Cedar Point. Upon receiving the number of students in need from Fleet 8, Walker promptly sends a check to the middle school office despite reminders that her contributions are not obligatory.

At Port Clinton High School, Walker quietly donates school supplies, clothing, hygiene products, hair accessories, and toiletries. Her selfless giving is done without seeking acknowledgment.

Although Walker prefers to remain “stealth” in her contributions, the school community wishes to express gratitude for the countless students she has helped over the years. In recognition of her unwavering generosity, Walker was awarded the Flagship Crew Award.
