Young artist Ben Lucas, 18, put the spotlight on life along the Lake Erie shoreline in winning a design contest by the Port Clinton City Council’s Economic and Community Development Committee late last year. Last week, Lucas and his family presented the design to the city, which will begin selling them for $30 at Port Clinton City Hall.
“Lake Erie is the defining element of Port Clinton,” said Lucas. “You don’t have our city without the lake.”
The red-and-white design depicts Lake Erie’s waves, with an anchor to identify Port Clinton as a port town on the Great Lakes.
“We’ll be flying the high profile flags at the Port Clinton City Beach and Lakeview Park,” said Councilman Gabe Below, who chaired the committee. Lucas’ design topped a group of 11 submissions in the competition.
