Port Clinton firefighters FEMA certified for Davis Besse mishap

The Port Clinton Fire Department is noted for its expertise in fighting fires, and because of its proximity to the Davis Besse Nuclear Power Plant, FEMA has mandated the Port Clinton fire crews must also be trained and ready through FEMA’s REP program should there be a mishap at the nuclear plant. The fire department has specialized equipment to detect radiation levels should people be exposed, and equipment to de-contaminate them. The fire department personnel studied those procedures last week and worked with the sophisticated equipment needed. The whole crew gathered around the portable decontamination tent, practiced the procedures for testing individuals and checked their detection gear with a scan of Port Clinton Fire Chief Kent Johnson.
