Port Clinton girls nip Huron; Lakers roll

PORT CLINTON — Port Clinton trailed early but rallied in the second quarter to take the lead and held on for a 52-50 win over Huron.

The Tigers led 14-7 after the first quarter but the Redskins rallied to take a 24-22 lead into the half. Port Clinton (1-3, 1-1 SBC Bay) led 36-35 after three quarters and outscored Huron, 16-15, in the fourth.

It was the first win of the season for the Redskins, who got a game-high 23 points from Da’Cariya Lanier, 12 of which came in the second half. Lanier made five 3-pointers and scored seven points in the fourth quarter. Teammate Olivia Jackson finished with 14 points.

Ava Winnestaffer scored 16 points to lead the Tigers and Eliza Maloney chipped in with 14.

Balanced scoring attack leads Lakers in rout of Raiders

Behind a second-quarter spurt that saw Danbury take control of the game, the Lakers defeated Lakota, 42-25.

The Lakers (2-2, 2-2 SBC River) led 4-2 after the first quarter and 18-11 at halftime. Danbury held a 29-21 advantage after three quarters and blew the game open by winning the fourth, 13-4.

Kamil Stephens and Kayla Rodriguez led all scorers with nine points apiece, Natalie Rose scored eight points and Maria Maringer had six points, including four in the fourth quarter.

Cassidy Foos scored nine points to lead the Raiders and Carlie Foos chipped in with eight points.

New Riegel 53, Danbury 33

New Riegel took control from the outset and cruised to a 53-33 victory over Danbury.

The Blue Jackets led 12-6 after the first quarter and won the middle two quarters, 30-14, to take a 42-20 lead into the fourth.

Aubrey Bouillon led all scorers with 21 points, Sydney Hohman had 14 and Olivia Schalk finished with 10.

Kamil Stephens led the Lakers with 10 points, Maria Maringer scored six and Natalie Rose chipped in with four.

Oak Harbor falls to Eastwood

Eastwood showed why it’s one of the area’s top teams and defeated Oak Harbor, 55-34, in non-conference action.

The Eagles took control early and led 18-6 after the first quarter and 29-17 at halftime. Eastwood pushed the lead to 39-24 after three quarters.

Aubrey Haas led the Eagles with 20 points and Sydney Ameling scored seven points.

Riley Steinbrick scored 14 points and Ryann Steinbrick and Auna Tack finished with eight points apiece.

Willard 85, Oak Harbor 43

Willard jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in its 85-43 victory over Oak Harbor. The Crimson Flashes led 20-5 after the first quarter and 38-17 at halftime.

McKenna Stephens had 17 points to lead Willard and Grace Hall scored 14. Ryann Steinbrick scored 13 points and Auna Tack chipped in with 10.
