The Port Clinton Police Department and many area law enforcement agencies took time out last Wednesday to honor Sgt. Robert B. Rigoni, the only Port Clinton officer to die in the line of duty. The city named Sixth Street as Sgt. Rigoni Memorial Drive. Rigoni was piloting an aircraft on a Lake Erie rescue effort in 1983 when it crashed near South Bass Island, killing four officers. His son, Billy Rigoni, far left in the photo, was only 10 at the time, but fondly remembered flying with his father.
