A great many people will take photographs of the exceptional Port Clinton Lighthouse during the 3rd annual Lighthouse and Maritime Festival on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., as talented Port Clinton photographer Kathy Jo Schweitzer (above) did so well recently for The Beacon.
A very talented group of artists, however, will try their hand — and paint brushes, pallet and easel — at capturing a Port Clinton Lighthouse image on canvas starting Friday, Aug. 16 at 3 p.m. Those artists could win a prize for the best portrait!
The winning artist will receive a ribbon and $100. The winning image will featured on the poster for the 2020 festival, where the winning painting will be auctioned to benefit the Port Clinton Lighthouse Conservancy.
Saturday’s schedule includes an opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m.; historical talks from noon to 5 p.m.; entertainment from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; plenty of refreshments all day, and face painting for the kids sponsored by Lilly & Gert’s.
More than 25 local and area vendor exhibits and numerous nautical displays will be set up at the festival, with non-profit exhibits by Erie Shores Church, Ohio Star Quilters Guild, U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Major sponsors of the festival are Coppeler Heating and Electric and Stensen Grant.
