Port Clinton Middle School student Shantha Weit, a sixth-grader, has qualified to compete in The Blade’s 2022 Northwest Ohio Championship Spelling Bee presented by Taylor Automotive Family.

Shantha was the top speller from the Port Clinton Middle School Spelling Bee and qualified for the Championship Spelling Bee through a virtually held contest. The Blade’s 2022 Bee will be held on Saturday, March 19, at the Center for Fine & Performing Arts at Owens Community College, 30335 Oregon Rd., Perrysburg at 10 a.m. The Spelling Bee is free and open to the public.

In addition to being an outstanding speller, Shantha is involved in band and the Young Entrepreneurs Club.

The winner of The Blade’s Bee will win a week-long, all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee held the week of May 29.
