The Magruder Hospital surgery team had the privilege of touring three groups of Port Clinton High School science students through its Surgery Department. The group of students are part of the new Science of Ottawa County class at Port Clinton High School, which is being taught by PCHS science teachers Ryan Wiechman and Tammie Rettig.
Magruder’s Perioperative Services Director, Becky Votino, BSN, RN, ONC provided some introductory information to the students before they put on their personal protective gear and went on a tour of the pre- and post-surgery areas, sterile processing area, operating room and post anesthesia care unit (PACU).
On the tour, Votino shared information about the foundational role science plays in healthcare. She also shared the roles and training that are required for the variety of positions in the Magruder Surgery Department.
