Port Clinton sports camps offer summer fun

The last day of school for Port Clinton City School District students is June 6, and while students will no longer be in the classroom, there are numerous summer camps and activities in the district.

All the following camp forms can be found on the district website (pccsd.net) under the Bulletin Board link.

Champions for Children will offer its popular Summer Enrichment Camps at Bataan Primary School. The nine one-week sessions begin June 17 and end Aug. 16, and offer child care options from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. There will be a wide range of activities and interesting camp themes. Port Clinton’s high school coaches offer a variety of sports summer camps and athletic clinics:

We Are PC Youth Camp is a coeducational day camp for students entering grades 4, 5 and 6. Camp days focus on developing sports skills and promoting the benefits of physical activity and a healthy lifestyles. Youngsters receive fundamental instruction from coaches in activities with friends. The 8:30-11:30 a.m. camp is free on Monday through Thursday starting June 10.

Redskin Boys Basketball Camp, June 10-13, PCHS Gymnasium. Head Coach Ryan Hicks and staff will stress the fundamentals of basketball, as well as games and contests. Grades 4-6 gather at 8:30-10:30 a.m.; and grades 6-8, 10:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Cost is $25 for grades 4-6; $30 for grades 7-9.

Redskin Girls Basketball Camp, June 17- 20, PCHS Gymnasium. Campers entering Grades 4,5 or 6, 8-10 a.m.; Grades 7-9 from 10 a.m.-noon. Cost is $25 for Grades 4-6; $30 for grades 7-9. Under the direction of Basketball Coach Lucas Kennedy, the goal is for girls to have fun while learning the great game of basketball.

Redskin Soccer Camp is hosted by Coach Paco Romero. There are special summer clinics for boys and girls in grades kindergarten through eighth grade from June 24 -27. Cost is $25; $45 for two family members; $60 for three or more family members. Grades K-2 will meet from 5-6 p.m.; grades 3 -5 from 6-7 p.m.; grades 6-8 from 7-8 p.m. Contact Coach Romero, 419-239-9491, for more information.

Football Camp is held by Coach Beau Carmon and his staff hosting the Redskins Junior Football camp for students in grades 3-6 on June 17-19 from 10 a.m.-noon at True-Lay Stadium. Cost is $25 for pre-registration or $30 at the camp.

Kiddie Football camp – For students entering grades K-2, Coach Carmon, his staff and Redskin football players offer a one day kiddie camp. This fun camp teaches the basics of football on June 24 from 10 a.m.-noon at True Lay Stadium.

Tennis Camps will be held from June 17-18 in two different sessions (all Monday-Thursday). There is also a third session for older students. Tennis camp sessions I and II are for students in grades 1-12. Grades 1-3 are 9-9:30 a.m., $25; Grades 4-6 are 9:45-10:45 a.m., $40; and Grades 7-12 will be 11 a.m.-noon, $40. PC Piranhas Swim Team is a summer youth competitive swim program that competes in the North Coast Summer Swim League. Practice begins in June at the Port Clinton High School Natatorium. Volleyball Camp will be held June 24-26 in the Port Clinton High School Gymnasium to introduce the fundamentals of volleyball to new players and enhance the skills of current players. Coach Kent Fehlbinger will work with Grades 4-6 at 3:30-4:30 p.m.; grades 7-8 at 5-7 p.m. Cost is $25.
