Nearly 44 years after it was founded in June, 1980, the Port Clinton chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) is still going strong. TOPS is a not-for-profit, weight control organization that began in Milwaukee in 1948. The organization features a network of weight-loss support groups as well as wellness education. The Port Clinton chapter is still strong and active and includes some of the original charter members.

Today, Port Clinton Tops meets at the Catawba Township Community Hall at 3307 NW Catawba Rd., Port Clinton. As of 2024, the meeting time has changed. Weigh-in is at 9:30 a.m., and the meeting is 10-11 a.m. on Tuesdays. Visitors are welcome, and their first visit is free.

TOPS is open to men, women, teens and children age seven and older with an adult. Two family members living in the same household will get half off the annual dues for the second membership. For inclement weather, TOPS will follow the Port Clinton school closing policy.

For more information, call TOPS Leader Mary Lue Carroll at 419-797-4283 or TOPS Advocate Janine Dress at 419-265-7298.
