NORWALK — Alliya Wharton’s storied career in Port Clinton reached an important milestone as she tied her sister, Aubrey, with the career record for home runs with 11 in the Redskins’ 10-3 victory over St. Paul.
Wharton finished with three hits and Kenzie Martinez and Cam Schmitt both had two hits apiece. Ashton Sanchez got the win in the circle.
Port Clinton begins tournament play against Perkins on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Sandusky.
Willard 2, Port Clinton 1
WILLARD — Ashton Sanchez pitched well but took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits in Port Clinton’s 2-1 loss to Willard.
Lauren Hamons got the win for the Crimson Flashes.
Macey Robinson finished with two hits and drove in a run to help pace Willard and Lauren Hamons picked up the win.
Maddie Wichman hit a home run for the Redskins and Olivia Emerson had three hits.
The Flashes scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie.
Port Clinton 20, St. Mary CC 7
PORT CLINTON — Port Clinton scored 14 runs in the first two innings and handily defeated St. Mary Central Catholic, 20-7, in five innings.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning, the Redskins responded with eight runs and scored six more in the second to take a 14-2 lead.
Kenzie Martinez went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs, Alliyah Wharton and Ashton Sanchez both drove in three runs and Kennedy Adkins went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs.
Sanchez pitched for the win.
Port Clinton boys defeat St. Paul in 8 innings
NORWALK — A back-and-forth game saw Port Clinton win by scoring a run in the eighth inning of its 7-6 victory over St. Paul.
Trailing 3-2, the Redskins (6-9) scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning, only to see the Flyers (12-6) respond with three runs to tie the score at 6-6.
Brayden Spencer pitched two innings for the win, striking out one batter and allowing one hit. Luke Halsey allowed six runs, five of which were earned, in six innings to go with four strikeouts and three walks.
Cashes Jackson was a force at the plate, finishing with two hits, including a double and two RBIs. Halsey and Logan Dale both drove in a run.
St. Paul got a combined four hits and three RBIs from Luke Blum and Kaden Maxwell.
