Alyssia Graber’s 4th Grade Science groups at Oak Harbor Middle School collaborated with teachers Mackenzie Warren, Cami Haas, and Haley Halstead on a volcano unit. Students met to discuss two major volcanoes, Pompeii, and Mt. Vesuvius, watching movies and took part in a slideshow and Q & A with Warren about her visit to Pompeii and hike up the volcano.
After a trio of classroom sessions, students first created a plaster structure of a volcano. During the second meeting, students painted the volcanos. Finally, the last step was to test the volcanos using vinegar, baking soda, food coloring, and dish soap in different combinations to cause their explosive reactions!
