Read Every Day-Everywhere, OR “RED-E,” is a reading program growing leaders and readers at Bataan Primary and Intermediate Elementary Schools. RED-E supports grades K-2 reading skills through review and practice.
Bataan intermediate volunteer students in grades 3-5 gain leadership growth opportunities by modeling above the line behavior, as well as time management and problem solving skills. Approximately 330 students begin their school day with exchanging a smile and reading together on a regular basis.
One of the many benefits is the RED-E daily interactions between young primary “readers” and intermediate volunteers leaders. The program began at Bataan Memorial in the fall will continue to the end of the school year to improve reading skills.
At the end of the year the students will be rewarded with a pizza lunch, and they recently received special RED-E reader t-shirts from an anonymous donation.
Julie Dunham and Karen Roberts, the program supervisors, are grateful for the numerous people contributing time and donations to support the RED-E reading program. Many Bataan teachers, administrators, and community people support the RED-E leaders and readers with building team spirit, readers, leaders, and school community.
The Port Clinton Academic Boosters supplied grant funds that also supports the RED-E program.
