This just might be a continuing trend for the Port Clinton boys’ basketball team, as they‘ve been getting strong at the end of the season and into tournaments.
The Redskins finished the regular season on a run, and gained another shot to advance with a double-overtime Sectional finals win over Toledo Scott, 77-62 on Friday night.
They also won their first tournament game Tuesday night with a 75-43 dominating win over Clyde in the first round of the Sectionals.
The Redskins are now 14-10 and winners of six straight games.
Adam Thorbahn and Jackson Beasley combined for 53 of Port Clinton’s 67 points. One of Thorbahn’s shots forced the second overtime and tied the game at 55-55.
In Tuesday’s game, the Redskins used a balanced scoring attack to bury Clyde, 75-47. Travis Yarnell replaced Nolan Chambers in the starting lineup, and he did a good job, according to Coach Ryan Hicks. Yarnell ended the game with 10 points. Port Clinton had 5 players score in double figures. Jackson Beasley had a big game with 22 points. Adam Thorbahn added 13, and Cam Gillum hit 11 while Owen Auxter added 10.
Hicks team (himself a tournament veteran as a member of the 2010 State Finals team) will play top-seeded Toledo Central Catholic on Thursday night at Lake High School.
