Farming has long been a major industry in Ottawa County, and on Wednesday, Sept. 21 the Soil and Water Conservation District will celebrate its 70th annual meeting and dinner at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds in Oak Harbor. The entertainment for the evening will be reminiscing about agriculture and conservation in Ottawa County.
A BBQ dinner will be held at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds. Tickets are $10 for BBQ chicken or beef brisket dinners and desert.
The master of ceremonies will be Dave Grimm, son of the late Fred Grimm, who was instrumental in establishing the Ottawa SWCD in 1952. He will be having a conversation with a cast of past supervisors, educators, employees, and general characters, who are guaranteed to share some smiles. It will be a night of great stories and celebrating our past.
SWCD members will cast ballots between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. for the election of two supervisors. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The Cooperator of the Year will also be awarded to an individual, business or agency that has shown outstanding support of conservation efforts either past or present.
Contact the District office at (419-898-1595) where staff members will assist in buyings tickets or call Board of Supervisors Rich Thorbahn, Todd Hecht, Roland Sandrock, Jim Sass or Bill Hartman.
