It is with sadness we share the passing of our loving husband and father, Richard G Day. “Dick” was born to Guy and Maralyn (Finken) Day on Dec. 31, 1945. He died April 6 in Avon Park, Fla., his winter home. On Oct. 1, 1966, he married Sandra (Cornell). Together they have two children, Kimberly-Kim (Scott) Williams, and Richard-Rich (Barbara) Day, 6 grandchildren- Griffin and Graham Hartman, Richard-Richie and Luke Day, Riley Williams, and
Taylor (Devon) Dishman. Two great granddaughters – Lyra and Rhea Dishman.
Also surviving are two sisters, Joyce (Ed) Myers, and JoAnn (Gary) Blake, stepmother, Donna (Harry) Butterbaugh and very special aunt, Sandy Finken.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, David (Barbara) Day; and father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Audrey Cornell.
Dick was a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service for 35 years, retiring in 2000. Attending his grandsons’ activities was a special part of Dick’s life. He was a proud “Grandpa” and loved sharing his grandsons’ accomplishments with anyone who would listen.
Idleness was not a word in Dick’s vocabulary. He always had a project, either his own or for a family member or friend. His favorite pastimes were fishing, woodworking and wood carving.
The family suggests memorials be designated to St John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, Ohio. To celebrate Dick’s life a service and gathering for family and friends will be held at St John Lutheran Church Hall, Port Clinton, Ohio on May 20th from 11:00 – 1:00. Light refreshments and sandwiches will be served.
