Richard “Rick” Wade Hostrup, Jr., passed away peacefully at his home in Westerville on Feb. 14. Born on Nov. 5, 1951, in Port Clinton, son of Richard “Dick” Wade Hostrup and Lillian Marie Hostrup. Preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
He is survived by his wife Carol Hostrup (nee Collum). She was the love of his life and they married in 1988. Rick was the first son of five children raised in a loving family. He is survived by sisters, Bette Marie Hostrup, Mary Beth Hostrup and Sally Jean Hostrup. A brother Robert Bruce Hostrup who preceded him in death.
Rick attended Ohio State University in the 1970’s. In his 20’s he traveled throughout the United States, working for the National Park Service in Everglades National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and at Lake Powell in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. His work at the park service nurtured a life-long love of the outdoors, biking and the safe keeping of the environment. Rick was born an entrepreneur and in his 30’s he returned to Columbus and started a catering business called “Made From Scratch”. It was a great success and he sold it in 1993. That same year, he started a new company,” Variations, Inc.” that specialized in special event planning and lighting presentations.
Rick was a loving husband and brother, and loved by all that knew him. We will miss him forever. Rick was a member of Old Stone Presbyterian Church 41 Hodges Road, Delaware, Ohio 43015.
