BY D’ARCY EGAN The expansive renovations at Ottawa County’s Riverview Health Campus will be on display at the facility’s open house on Sunday, Feb. 23 from Noon to 3 p.m., from the homey Town Square to a wide variety of special stations designed to provide outstanding care. Stations that will impress visitors include Harvest Glen, which has traditional long-term care units; The Lighthouse memory care unit, the Cottage Cove short-term rehabilitation suites; and Hartford on the River, providing assisted living suites. Ottawa County Riverview, 8180 W. State Rt. 163, Oak Harbor has been county-owned and operated for 149 years, and Administrator Kendra German is proud that it was the first skilled nursing facility in the county to receive a 5-star rating from the Medicare Overall Star Rating System. It has continued to be a 5-star facility. “The renovations that have been made are simply beautiful, and all of them are designed to provide a comfortable, homey atmosphere,” said German. “All of our staff contribute to that as long-time employees who enjoy what they do at Riverview.” Ottawa County Commissioner Mark Stahl said the county has been very responsive to the wants and needs of Riverview Healthcare Campus, and praised the renovations that have brought commissioners from other counties, such as Wood and Erie, to tour the facility. “They were very impressed, quite frankly,” said Stahl. “The $10 million renovation allows us to stay in the game by putting money into the infrastructure. We have to take our hats off, as well, to the employees at Riverview. They are unique individuals who are dedicated to the residents and bring the building to life.” Riverview had been renovated about two decades ago, said Stahl. “We pretty much duplicated the financing for the past renovation, a debt we had paid off but felt comfortable servicing for the present renovation. Because of the financial stability of Ottawa County, said Stahl, and its premier AA bond rating, the project was financed at the low interest rate of 3.46 percent over 30 years. Riverview Healthcare Camp revolves around Harvest Glen, the traditional long term nursing home care with private and semi-private rooms. The Rehab Clinic focuses on physical, occupational and speech therapies. Cottage Cove has an inpatient short-term rehabilitation unit of 13 private suites. The Lighthouse serves dementia and Alzheimer’s patients in addition to providing psychological counseling. Day Break provides adult day services, including recreational and social activities, nutritional meals and snacks and other daily activities in a home-like atmosphere. Riverview also contracts with Veterans Affairs to provide inpatient and adult day services. The Riverview Town Square is the hub of the healthcare facility. Arriving at the front door, visitors can appreciate its combination of the Horizon Chapel, theater, bar and cafe areas, fireplace, beauty salon and barber shop, doctor’s office, library, banks and comfortable seating for visitors.
