Robert A. “Bob” Segaard, 74, of Port Clinton, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 21, at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center in Port Clinton. He was born on Jan. 12, 1947, in Port Clinton, the son of the late Stensen and Margaret (Covell) Segaard. On May 31, 1980, he married Dolores Strand and she survives.
Bob was a veteran of the United States Army, having served our country during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge from the military, he came home and went to work as a machine mechanic and maintenance technician at US Gypsum for over 40 years, retiring in 2008. While at US Gypsum, he won an award for an idea he had to make empty pails not spill over as they were being filled while on the production line.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Clinton. He enjoyed buying antique cars and going to car shows. He also owned many tractors, dump trucks, and was happiest when he was in his barn working on something. He also was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores “Lorie”; children, Benjamin (Brook) Segaard and Rebecca Williams (Aaron Benton), both of Marion; Theodore Segaard, Jessica Segaard, and William Segaard, all of Port Clinton; grandchildren, Zachary Keller, Natalie Williams, Claire Williams, Charles, Brynn, and Connor Segaard; brothers, David (Joan) Segaard and Mark (Karen) Segaard, both of Port Clinton; sister, Susan Segaard, Cincinnati; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Segaard, Port Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, William Segaard.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Wednesday, Nov. 24, at St. John Lutheran Church, 207 Adams Street, Port Clinton. Pastor Dane Meuschke officiated. Burial will take place at a later date at Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church.
