Robert “Bob” John Walls, 97, of Port Clinton, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, Feb. 21, after a two-week bout of pneumonia. He was born on Feb. 12, 1926, in Port Clinton, the son of George and Susan (Christiansen) Walls. He married Eileen Cooley in Port Clinton on July 4, 1947, and after 71 ½ years, she preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 2019.
Bob was a World War II veteran serving from 1944-1946 in New Guinea and the Philippines with the Seabees Naval Construction 119th Battalion Company D aiding in the liberation of the Philippines.
He worked for Standard Products, Port Clinton Lumbar Company, but best known for owning Walls Construction as a carpenter and general contractor, building many homes in the Port Clinton area. In his retirement he was well known for the hundreds of wooden boxes he made and gave away.
He was an avid hunter in Wyoming, Utah, Alaska, Maine, West Virginia and British Columbia, making lifelong friends everywhere he went.
Survivors include his sons: Robert T. (Kathy) Walls of Port Clinton and Larry A. (Paula) Walls of Castalia; grandchildren: Carrie (Noel) Christian, Jennifer (Ed) Schaum, Lauren (Allen) Leber, Robert G. Walls; Great-grandchildren, Caleb Christian and Sophia Leber. He was preceded in death by his wife; sisters, Joanne Mehalic, Mavis Combs, Susan Clark, Beverly Fletcher, Linda Makuhan; and brothers, Roy, George, Gene, and Donald.
Visitation was held at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, on Friday, Feb. 24. Following visitation a Graveside Service was held at Riverview Cemetery in Port Clinton. Memorial Contributions may be made to Team VIAC Training Center, 3936 E.
