MILAN — A tough season that has had its share of ups and downs saw Oak Harbor girls basketball persevere and defeat Edison, 40-39. The Rockets (6-8, 3-3 SBC Bay) held a small lead for much of the game and were able to hold off the Chargers (10-6, 3-3) until the finish.
Aunt Tack had 11 points to lead Oak Harbor while Sophia Eli and Kaitlin Paul chipped in with 10 points apiece. Edison’s Aliyah Capronini had 13 points to lead all scorers.
Elmwood 44, Oak Harbor 36
A competitive first half saw Elmwood take control of the game in the second half as the Royals (9-6) defeated Oak Harbor, 44-36, in non-conference action. Holding an 18-16 lead at halftime, Elmwood outscored the Rockets, 13-7, in the third quarter to take control of the game.
Brooklyn Thrash led all scorers with 32 points and 10 rebounds. Sophia Eli and Riley Steinbrick scored 14 points apiece to lead the Rockets.
Rocket boys fall to Cardinal Stritch, 79-72
In a matchup of two of Northwest Ohio’s best teams, Cardinal Stritch defeated Oak Harbor in a thrilling game, 79-72, in boys basketball.
The Rockets (7-2) led 34-30 at halftime but the Cardinals outscored them, 30-21, in the third quarter to take a 60-55 lead heading into the fourth. The final quarter was very competitive, as the Rockets answered nearly every Stritch (11-3) run before the Cardinals held on late.
Joey Holifield, who is headed to Oakland University next year, scored 28 points to lead all scorers and Jhaiden Wilson chipped in with 23. Jac Alexander had 25 points to lead Oak Harbor, which got 14 points from Will Dowling and 12 from Blake Booker.
