Ronald K. Scharff, 82, of Catawba Island, passed away Feb. 10 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Nov. 23, 1938 in Toledo, the son of Norman and Olive (Eckerman) Scharff. Ronald was a 1956 graduate of Waite High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo and Master’s degree from Bowling Green State University.
Ron worked as an engineer for Owens-Illinois in Toledo and then for Whirlpool in Findlay. He retired in 1994 and moved to Catawba Island. He enjoyed traveling out west and visiting Florida, Hawaii and Alaska. Ronald also volunteered at Magruder Hospital for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy Scharff, children, Brenda Lee, Andrea (Tony) Jones, Brian (Deb) Scharff and Scott (Marisa) Scharff; grandchildren, Michael Lee, Evan Lee, Alex Jones, Maia Scharff, Trent Scharff, Tommy Scharff, Brittney Glick, and great grandson, Hudson Glick. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, brother Norm Scharff, Jr.
Private family services will be conducted, and a Celebration of Life held in the summer when restrictions are lifted. Ron will be buried in Catawba Island Cemetery.
