Rotary Perch Wagon serves birders on weekends

Perch Wagon volunteers of Rotary Club of Port Clinton look forward to serving the community during birding events at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge this weekend.

The Rotary Club of Port Clinton’s Perch Wagon Fundraiser will be serving up something tasty at various events throughout 2021, beginning with all birder days in May at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge (ONWF).

“The pandemic halted our largest earning fundraiser last year,” said President Pat Adkins. “We’re glad to be back in the wagon and serving our community. The profits generated from this help to support the many scholarships we provide to our local high school students.”

Serving fried fish, fresh cut fries, and a variety of other menu items, the wagon operates 11:15 a.m.-5 pm, at ONWF on Saturdays and Sundays on May 8-9 and May 15-16. The club’s Perch Wagon, a profit source for more than 15 years, has generated nearly $80,000 for the club. In recent years, the wagon saw earnings of $10,000 per year.

The Perch Wagon will be in operation at various other locations this summer, including at The Lighthouse Conservancy (Port Clinton’s downtown Historic Lighthouse), on Saturday, Aug. 21.

The Rotary club welcomes new members interested in giving back to the community via fellowship with other business, professional and community leaders. Rotary Club of Port Clinton presently has about 40 community members, meeting on Tuesdays at noon. The group will return to in-person meetings on Tuesday, May 11, at Clinton House in Port Clinton. Questions may be directed to President Pat Adkins,padkins@pccsd-k12.net, or call Duane Waite at 419-797-9006. Visit the Rotary Club of Port Clinton Facebook page, for details.
