Sandusky Blue Streaks head into sectional games

The Sandusky Blue Streaks boys team made their way into the final Division 1 poll and ranked number nine in the state’s largest poll that was released Monday, Feb. 26. Sandusky had a record of 21-1 for the second straight season, and they will take a 15-game winning streak into the sectional games.

The Perkins Pirates boys team are also on a roll, and they took their seven-game winning streak into the sectional tournament opener against the Tiffin Columbian Tornadoes. The Tuesday, Feb. 27 game would see the Perkins Pirates victorious 54-40. Perkins is now 16-7, and they are the sixth seed going against the third seed, Willard Crimson Flashes, on Friday, March 1.

In Division III sectional semifinal action, the Huron Tigers boys team fell to the Lake Flyers 72-61 on Tuesday, Feb. 27. The Huron Tigers have a record of 9-14, and the Lake Flyers are 16-7.

The Division II sectional opener on Tuesday, Feb. 27 saw the Clyde Fliers boys team topping the Maumee Panthers 66-53. Clyde was the sixth seed in their district, and Maumee was the ninth seed.

In a Division IV semifinal game on Wednesday, Feb. 28, the St. Paul Flyers boys team defeated the Danbury Lakers 80-46. Danbury has a record of 3-20. The Lakers have a record of 17-6 and are the fourth seed. St. Paul takes on the fifth-seeded Mansfield Christian (19-4) on Friday, March 1.

In Girls Varsity Tournament games, the Division II semifinal game on Thursday, Feb. 29 saw Toledo Central Catholic defeating Port Clinton 60-33. Toledo Central Catholic are sixth seed. Port Clinton was the fifth seed, and their record was 17-8.

In a Girls Division IV district semifinal, it was Danbury defeating South Central 62-36. Danbury has a record of 23-2 which now passes the 1983-1984 team’s record of 22 wins. Danbury will play the number two-seeded New London (20-4) on Saturday, March 2 for the district title.

Perkins Pirates girls basketball coach Ryan Orshoski has stepped down from his position after two years. Orshoski compiled a record of 26-22 in those two years. The Perkins Pirates record this season was 12-11 and 14-11 last season.
