Steve Camella was wrapping up a long career as the athletic director at Huron High School and was ready to retire. All of that changed at the Sandusky school board meeting on Monday, June 24, when Camella was approved as Sandusky’s interim athletic director for the 2024-2025 school year. A Sandusky administrator had called Camella the second week of June and presented the idea of working as a consultant to help bridge the gap in the Athletic Department office until someone could be hired fulltime.

Todd Peugeot, who is the assistant Sandusky principal, will help lead the Athletic Department until Camella officially takes over on August 1. Camella has already been in the office after his shift in Huron to get organized for the fall sports season. Before taking the Huron job, Camella was an Assistant Athletic Director at Sandusky from 2007-2011. He lives in the city, and he graduated from Sandusky High School in 1978, where he was a wrestler for the Sandusky Blue Streaks.

Jamaris Brown has been approved as the new head coach for the Sandusky Blue Streaks football team following the Sandusky City Schools board meeting on Monday, June 24.

Brown will be entering his ninth year in the program. He was the associate head coach and the defensive coordinator under Lucas Poggiali for the last two seasons. Brown teaches physical education at the junior high.

Brown is from Fort Meyers, Florida, and he played college football at Walsh University in North Canton. Brown is married to the former Morgan Newell and the couple has three young children. Newell is a Sandusky graduate and a former basketball standout.
