Job Corps Scholars program applications are still open for eligible students. Terra State Community College partnered with Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP) to provide free tuition for career technical training through the Job Corps Scholars grant.

Terra State is one of the 26 public colleges and universities nationwide to receive this grant, awarded from the U.S. Department of Labor in 2020 to provide at-risk youth with job skills instruction, educational opportunities and individualized employment counseling. Enrolled Job Corps Scholars students will earn academic credit hours during the program.

In this program, Job Corps Scholars students will receive $6,000 in tuition scholarships, student support services, apparel, paid work experiences, limited housing assistance and food vouchers for any student who has food insecurities.

In addition, Career Coaches will provide intensive personal and career counseling services to support and facilitate the completion of the program. Employment counseling services will also be provided, including a 12-month follow-up period of employment services which incorporates assistance in enrolling into an Apprenticeship program or job placement.

A total of 80 students can participate in the program.

Eligible students must meet a variety of requirements, as well as pursue credentials in Automotive Repair, Business & Technology, CDL/Truck Driving, General Business, Healthcare & Wellness, Information Technology, Manufacturing Foundation, Manufacturing/CAD, Office Administration, STNA (Nurses Aid) or Welding.

“The Job Corps Scholars Program provides our students with great opportunities and resources. It is amazing to see how our students can receive a certificate, employment or continue their education. However, my greatest joy is being there to help, coach and encourage them to succeed and become all they can be,” said Lucille Phillips, career coach.

Anyone interested in applying for the Job Corps Scholars program should contact Lucille Phillips with the GLCAP at 419-559-2427 or lnphillips@glcap.org
