SIMPLE GESTURES celebrates 6th year of community support

SG Organizer K.J. Schweitzer and Ashley Walterbusch of the Ottawa County Advocacy Center unload much-needed wooden cabinets for the center.

The generosity of more than 90 program contributors has driven the simple community service idea of Port Clinton’s Kathy Jo Schweitzer’s SIMPLE GESTURES into becoming a simple way for everyone to not only donate new items, but also to help them recycle useable items they no longer want.

Most of the time, a specific need request is emailed to all contributors, who will choose if they wish to participate. At other times, photos of pre-owned items can be texted to SIMPLE CONNECTIONS for consideration.

Tami Matthews of Joyful Connections helps K.J. Schweitzer unload bicycles for kids to enjoy at the Oak Harbor facility, which provides safe, secure and nurturing opportunities for families to spend time together.

Everything donated is checked out, prepared for distribution, and hand-delivered by Schweitzer. Because of this basic procedure, SIMPLE GESTURES has been able to assist Joyful Connections with a gently-used tricycle, matching gas pump, and big wheel for its new outdoor playground.

Also, the Ottawa County Family Advocacy Center received a double baby stroller, children’s covered wagon, and a wooden stand for its grandparent and young adult programs.

“We have presented over 20,000 items so far, and can do even more. People of all ages are welcome to join us,” said Schweitzer. Email mskjs10@gmail.com to learn more about SIMPLE GESTURES.
