To the Editor:

In reading Mark Cahlik’s Beacon Outdoors column on Oct. 9, he mentioned the founder of Rickard’s Bait & Tackle was Howard Catley, Sr. I feel that it needs to be mentioned that the Catley family actually purchased the business from my parents, Tom and Sheila Rickard, in the late 1970s.

The Catley family decided to keep the name. When you factor in the time my parents ran the business, the original Catawba Road location has been in operation for nearly half a century.
