To the Editor:
Articles in the July 18 issue of the Beacon discuss in great depth the continued research and documentation of issues contributing to the harmful algal blooms (HABs) and overall lake water quality. Reading these two articles it appears that approximately 13 agencies and universities are studying causes for HABs and deteriorating water quality, but there is no mention of enforcement of laws, or rules that might have an impact on the issues facing Lake Erie.
The question becomes, when will we stop funding redundant research and start funding creation of and enforcement of laws to substantially reduce the HABs and increase water quality?
