Dear Editor,

I am purposely sending this letter after Christmas because everyone’s mind has been on shopping and making holiday plans, not really focusing on the past. However, if you purchased a ticket for Playmakers’ most recent performance, I would bet the joy of that evening’s experience is still within you; I know it is with me. Even though I have seen a variety of their always-good performances over the years, I definitely feel that “A Christmas Carol” just has to be up-there, along with “Fiddler on the Roof,” performed many years ago. I can remember that one as well. (“If I were a rich man ….” la la la.)

The theatre was packed full of people, who sang along with the huge cast of awesome, period-costumed characters from very young children to older adults, singing, dancing, laughing, swirling, performing as professionals on a very small, yet uniquely-constructed stage. It was obvious that it certainly took a village on-and-back-stage to create such a masterpiece. Everyone represented a time period long-gone, taking the entire audience with them. Plus, don’t get me started on the lead characters, other than saying, “Unbelievable! How did they memorize all those lines?”

In today’s confusing world, there are still some really great things. One of Port Clinton’s finest is certainly Playmakers’ Civic Theatre. If you have never seen a performance, GO (men, women, children)! Its next production is in May.

Thanks for making this Christmas season much brighter.

Kathy Jo Schweitzer
